Scouting For Food

There is no better way to show our Scouting Spirit than by participating in the annual Scouting for Food drive! Now is the time to show our community the Scouting values of being loyal, helpful, kind and cheerful.

In partnership with local food banks this council-wide service project begins Saturday, April 1st as Scouts distribute yellow Trig’s bags in their neighborhoods. Scouts will re-turn on Saturday, April 8th to pick up and deliver donations to their local food banks and pantries.

2017 Boy Scout Requirement Changes

The BSA’s 2017 Boy Scout Requirements book, detailing major and minor changes to Boy Scout ranks and merit badges, is now available.

Inside you’ll find:

  • Modifications to the Second Class and First Class ranks
  • The new Exploration merit badge
  • Major changes to four merit badges (Disabilities Awareness, Hiking, Pioneering, Radio)
  • Minor changes to 32 merit badges

The changes are the work of volunteers and Scouting professionals who have analyzed feedback from Scouts and Scout leaders about current requirements.

Volunteer Rangers & Commissioners

Adults are needed for the Volunteer Ranger and Commissioner Staff at camp this summer. Each program provides room and board for a week at camp and in return all we asks is that you help camp out with some projects throughout the week.

  • Volunteer Ranger - Volunteers to work with the ranger staff on projects such as campsite maintenance, new construction, and building maintenance.
  • Volunteer Commissioner - The commissioner’s role is to be a friend to every Scout and Scouter that attends camp. They will work with the commissioner staff to provide services to units throughout the week as well as other support roles such as campsite visits, program support, supply organization, and much more.

Anyone interested in helping in one of these roles can contact Samoset Camping at 715-365-3111 or email camp@samoset.org.

2018 Philmont Trip

Philmont Scout Ranch is the Boy Scouts of America's largest national High Adventure Base. Its 34 staffed camps and 55 trail camps provide an unforgettable adventure in the high country along hundreds of miles of rugged, rocky trails.

More than 1 million Scouts, Venturers, and leaders have experienced the adventure of Philmont since the first camping season in 1939. Throughout its existence, conscientious attention to low-impact camping techniques has helped maintain the Ranch's wilderness.

Join the 2018 Samoset Philmont contingent for an adventure of a lifetime. You will not only get to hike one of the best trail systems in the Country, but you will get to meet Scouters from around the Council and have a blast at one of the BSA’s High Adventure Bases.

Safety Moment

Safety Moments are exactly what the name implies: opportunities to prepare for an activity, review safety measures, and report incidents correctly. This month features the Annual Health and Medical Record.

March is a great time to remind your Scouts about the importance of why we have an annual health and medical record, AHMR, for all participants in all Scouting activities. It also gives you time to have pre-participation exams done prior to the start of camping season with less stress.
