SMILEY NEWS - MAY 2018

A monthly newsletter for families and leaders of Samoset Scouting - Where Camping is King!

STEM Day Camps!

Summer is made for exploration!  Join us this summer for a STEM Day Camp in your community.  Our STEM day camps offer activities for boys and girls going into grades 3-6.  They'll work in teams, make new friends and perform experiments that make science, technology, engineering and math come alive!

Activities Committee Openings!

We will be hosting an Activities Committee meeting on May 29th at 7:00pm at the Scout Center. This will be a meeting for any volunteer looking to be involved in an Activity Team in the Council. We want to do strategic planning and define a plan for down the road.

Bonus... We will have Buffalo Wild Wings for all the volunteers!

Please RSVP by May 27th to Christine Reynebeau at christine.reynebeau@samoset.org.

2018-2019 Resource Guide

Providing a year-round quality Scouting program is the key to unit success. Samoset Council wants to make sure you have the tools and resources to make this happen. The 2018-2019 resource guide is now available. We encourage each unit to spend time this summer planning activities for the next Scouting year and building an active outdoor program.  Contact the Samoset office to learn more and obtain copies of this great resource.

Summer Activity Passport!

To state it obviously, the summer months are hectic with family gatherings and can be difficult to attend Scouting activities regularly. Starting June 1st, your Scout can be active in the Scouting program throughout summer while creating memories with family at the same time!

Samoset Council's Dino-mite Summer Activity Passport!

To earn the patch, each Scout must participate in all 3 of the activities. You can see the passport here.

PARENTS: After you or your Scout’s Leader complete and sign this passport, send in the passport to get their special patch!

Patches will be given to your Pack Leader!

You can download your Dino-mite Passport here (PDF)!

Summer Camp Menus

Camp menus are available on our website.  Anyone with food allergies or special diet needs should complete the diet request form so our Food Service Director can work out alternatives.

Safety Moment

Safety Moments are exactly what the name implies: opportunities to prepare for an activity, review safety measures, and report incidents correctly. This month features food safety.

Food-borne illnesses peak during the summer months due to a variety of factors, including warmer temperatures and improper food handling. Keep your meals and your Scouts safe while participating in hikes, campouts, and other outdoor activities with careful menu planning and by following safe food handling practices. Remember the three “C’s” to keep your food safe: Keep it COLD, keep it CLEAN, and COOK it thoroughly.
