Youth Protection Training

The BSA has announced significant updates to its Youth Protection program as part of an ongoing effort to protect young people from child abuse. This starts with an enhanced online Youth Protection training course that all volunteers and professionals must complete.

The updated mandatory training includes three modules and a test that take a little over an hour to complete. The mandatory and recommended training modules draw on research from experts and survivors in the field of child abuse and maltreatment to identify the contributing factors and threats across the spectrum of child abuse including: bullying, neglect, exposure to violence, physical and emotional abuse, and child sexual abuse. Once completed, volunteers will not have to retake the training for two years.

The BSA is serious about fighting child abuse and you’re an important part of that fight. Thanks for your help and service you provide to Scouting.

Need help with this training? Contact the Samoset Council Support Team at 715-355-1450.

Please note: Even those Scout leaders who took the previous version of Youth Protection Training must log into My.Scouting.org and complete the updated Youth Protection course. This must be completed by Oct. 1, 2018.

2018 Samoset Jamboree!
Join us October 12-13-14, 2018 at the Hodag Festival Grounds in Rhinelander, WI. Fun is guaranteed for all!

Scout Skills hands on activities like: paintball, archery, ax throwing, STEM experiments and demonstrations, Ham-radio operations, pedal cart races, branding, rope making, cooking, camping... The list of activities available is so long we cannot list it all!

The evening show is set. HYDE a local band, will perform along with HOT DOG. HOT DOG will also be doing (during the day) improv comedy classes for anyone that wants to see how well they can do.

Dave Schult, Lead Coordinator, and his committee of volunteers have been working for the last 18 months preparing for anywhere between 2,000 to 2,500 Scouts and family members to attend this once every five-year event. “Our goal is to make this Jamboree a memorable experience for your Scout by providing a wide variety activities from STEM competition to Scout skills to gold prospecting to life size Foosball to a Rock and Roll band to complete the day.” explained Dave.

To find out more on this Jamboree and how you can submit your theory on how Smiley lost and finds his crown, you can click here!

The cost is only $25.00 per person, including a lunch on Saturday.

Save the Date: Roundtable Program Kickoff

Roundtable is a fantastic opportunity each month to visit with fellow Scouting volunteers from across Samoset Council.  Pack and troop leaders will not want to miss this opportunity to receive program ideas, training, insights from other leaders, and get the latest council information.  Samoset Council hosts roundtable at six different locations each month.  Topics covered and information shared at each location is the same.  Choose the date and location that works best for you.  All pack, troop, and crew volunteers are encouraged to attend monthly.

Thank you to Rus Hoffman and our team of roundtable volunteers for leading the way in revamping them across the council.  If you have suggestions for future roundtable topics, please share them by emailing Rus at Rus.Hofmann@gmail.com.
