Samoset Council Jamboree!

Smiley the Tent cannot find his crown; we need your help! Scouts have until September 1st to submit their theory or story as to what happened to Smiley's Crown. Their story should include how it was lost, steps Smiley and Scouts took to find it and how it was recovered. Creativity is appreciated! The Scouts are welcome to submit a written document or a short video (news story).

All Boy Scouts, Venture Scouts, STEM Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Explorers are invited!  Don’t miss the fun and excitement of the 2018 Council Jamboree, which will be held October 12-14, 2018 at the Hodag Festival Grounds in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.  Our program will be jam-packed with challenging activities, super shows, and awesome exhibits; so start planning now to enjoy this most excellent adventure! Get registered today!

FYI: Parents and visitors are also welcome and encouraged to attend the Jamboree!

Why Roundtable?

For those who haven't yet attended one, Roundtable is a fantastic opportunity each month to visit with fellow Scouting volunteers from across Samoset Council. Pack and troop leaders will not want to miss this opportunity to receive program ideas, training, insights from other leaders, and get the latest council information. Starting this September, Samoset Council will host Roundtable at five different locations each month. Topics covered and information shared at each location is the same. Choose the date and location that works best for you. All pack, troop, and crew volunteers are encouraged to attend monthly. Click here to find the dates/times/locations for your local Roundtable as well as additional resources to help you be prepared.

If you have suggestions for future Roundtable topics, please share them by emailing Rus at Rus.Hofmann@gmail.com.

Unit Service Model

The Samoset Council, BSA exists to serve youth and families in our communities.  Youth and families receive the greatest benefits from Scouting by participating in quality programs at the unit level.   Our top priority is to provide exceptional service to each Scouting unit by assisting unit leaders in delivering quality programs to youth and their families.

Surrounding the unit leader are the three primary service arms of the council: the professional staff of the BSA serving as “Unit Serving Executives”; volunteer Scouters serving as “Unit Ambassadors” and employees of Samoset Council staffing the “Council Service Center.”  Behind that team are additional staff and volunteer Scouters with a wealth of experience and passion for Scouting all working to provide unit leaders with exceptional programs and services.

If you have a question, reach out to your Unit Serving Executive, your Unit Ambassador, or the Council Service Center.  Assistance is just a phone call, text (or visit) away.

Safety Moment

Safety Moments are exactly what the name implies: opportunities to prepare for an activity, review safety measures, and report incidents correctly. This month features propane stoves.

Stoves made for the outdoors can also extend the range of your travels by giving you a reliable way to generate heat anywhere and in any weather”. This is a quote from the 2014 edition of the Fieldbook (Scouting’s Manual of Basic and Advanced Skills for Outdoor Adventure). A propane camp stove has a lot of versatility. Two-burner propane stoves tend to be used more for base camping where the stove is setup and used in one location during the camping trip. There are some single burner propane stoves, although they tend to be a bit bulky and not always suitable for long backpacking trips.
