Program Kick-Off!!

Out here, success isn't about the highest score... It's about helping others, doing your best, and so much more! (Join Cub Scouts Commercial)

It is imperative at least one person from every Pack and Troop joins us, but all are welcome. We will be going over new and valuable information about how to run the best Open house and a Join night event possible. We will be handing out recruitment information to Troops with the expectation that all Troops actively recruit this fall. We will be handing out recruitment bags with all kinds of fun goodies and important supplies.

There will be food and prizes and tons of fun!

We have three Kick-Off events happening this August so that everyone has the opportunity to join us!

  • Stevens Point - August 13th 6:00-7:00pm at the St. Paul's United Methodist Church
  • Wausau - August 15th  6:00-7:00pm at the Samoset Council Scout Center
  • Tomahawk - August 15th  5:30-8:30pm (Combined with Popcorn Kick-Off) at the PCA Training Facility  - Supper Provided

Roundtable

For those who haven't yet attended one, Roundtable is a fantastic opportunity each month to visit with fellow Scouting volunteers from across Samoset Council. Pack and troop leaders will not want to miss this opportunity to receive program ideas, training, insights from other leaders, and get the latest council information. Starting this September, Samoset Council will host Roundtable at five different locations each month. Topics covered and information shared at each location is the same. Choose the date and location that works best for you. All pack, troop, and crew volunteers are encouraged to attend monthly. Click here to find the dates/times/locations for your local Roundtable as well as additional resources to help you be prepared.

If you have suggestions for future Roundtable topics, please share them by emailing Rus at Rus.Hofmann@gmail.com.

Scouting & Youth Safety

Child sexual abuse continues to be a significant topic of the national conversation. Recently, several news organizations have featured stories about adult survivors of sexual assault experienced while Scouts.

Boy Scouts of America not only believes and supports these victims, but is outraged that there have been times that individuals have taken advantage of Scouting programs to harm children. Boy Scouts of America has taken significant steps over many years to respond aggressively to reports of abuse.

Media coverage often contains a number of inaccurate and misleading statements regarding youth safety in Scouting. Here are the facts:

  1. No harm to a child is ever acceptable.
  2. Scouting is and always has been one of the safest places for 120 million youth members for more than 100 years.
  3. The BSA’s Youth Protection practices and policies have been cited by safety professionals as the gold standard for all youth organizations.
  4. Since the implementation of two deep leadership in 1987, sexual abuse has been practically eliminated in Scouting. We must remain vigilant and work with the larger community to end it everywhere.

If you have questions about Samoset Council and Boy Scouts of America’s commitment to Scouts’ safety, health and wellbeing, or would like to learn more about Scouting, please contact Samoset Council Scout Executive John Overland at 715-490-2734

Safety Moment

Safety Moments are exactly what the name implies: opportunities to prepare for an activity, review safety measures, and report incidents correctly. This month features winter activity safety.

Family camping, along with resident camping, is another timeless outdoor experience that involves Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, or Venturing program elements in an overnight setting. It requires that two or more family members attend, including at least one BSA member, to count as family camping. Youth Protection policies still apply, but of course parents are responsible for the supervision of their children.
