Scoutbook Den Leader Experience

If you’re a den leader, you’re going to love the latest update to Scoutbook! The Boy Scouts of America’s online tool for tracking Scouting advancement just rolled out a new update that is going to make it easier than ever for den leaders to prepare for and lead meetings,track advancement and attendance and more.  

Fireside Chats

Samoset Council will be conducting fireside chats on the following dates.  You are invited to come out and share your feedback regarding Scouting.

  • 10/1 Stevens Point, 6:30 p.m.: Stevens Point Area High School, 1201 Northpoint Drive, Stevens Point, WI 54481
  • 10/3 Wausau, 6:30 p.m.: Riverview Elementary, 4303 Troy Street, Wausau, WI 54403
  • 10/10 Marshfield, 6:30 p.m.: St. Johns Baptist Church , 201 W. Blodgett Street, Marshfield, WI 54449

This is an opportunity for council staff and board volunteers to gather input on how we can continuously improve Scouting in the areas that we serve.  Its also a time for council staff and volunteers to share “hot topics” to keep you informed on what is occurring at Samoset Council and at the National BSA level.

Join us and meet our new Scout Executive, John Overland.  As Scout Executive, John is responsible for the overall program delivery of Scouting in our thirteen county area.  He coordinates the efforts of the volunteer Executive Board of Samoset Council.  He also works with the board and staff to implement the council strategic plan.  John is an Eagle Scout, Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and Wood Badge trained professional Scouter with 23 years of experience.  He started his role on August 1.  John has been a den leader, Webelos leader, assistant Scoutmaster, merit badge counselor, crew advisor and institutional head.


Uniform Checklist

Save 25% On a Scout Uniform Shirt with the purchase of a Scout Uniform Bottom. Must be purchased together. Offer valid thru 10/13/19. This goes for any Uniform Shirt not just the blue cub scout ones.

Fall Cub Camp

Experience camp for the first time or as a returning Scout.  Choose from one of two dates. Samoset Council is known as the place "Where Camping is King," Come and see why!

  • October 5 - Camp Phillips in Weston
  • October 6 - Grand Rapids Lions Park in Wisconsin Rapids
  • October 12 - Akela's World in Rhinelander
Registration is avaialble online or by phone (715-355-1450).  
 
Program begins at 9:30 AM each day. Participants should arrive ready for a full day of outdoor activities. Lunch will be served for all.
 

Winter Camp 2020

Samoset Scout Shop

Located in the Wausau Homes Scout Center, the Samoset Scout Shop is here to serve all your needs in uniforms, BSA national supply items, advancement purchases, publications, outdoor equipment, crafts and more. Many of the items listed in the BSA Catalog are in stock and what isn't can be ordered through the Scout Shop, free of shipping charges for you. 

Scout Shop Hours

  • 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
  • 9:00 am - 12:00 pm (second Saturday of the month, September - May)

Extended Hours for September

  • Tuesday September 24, 8:30 am - 7:00 pm
  • Wednesday September 25, 8:30 am - 7:00 pm
  • Saturday September 28, 9:00 am-12:00 pm

Safety Moment

Safety Moments are exactly what the name implies: opportunities to prepare for an activity, review safety measures, and report incidents correctly. This month features campfires.

Who doesn’t love a glowing camp fire at the end of the day? However, to make sure it won’t be your tent that burns, let’s look at some good fire safety practices.
