Scouting at Home Resources

In times of crisis, Scouts find a way to adapt. Although our lives may look a little different, Scouting can and should continue even if we cannot hold in-person meetings. Please visit our Scouting at Home page for the latest ideas, resources, and fun ways to keep Scouting!

Join us next week for Smiley's Cook Off!  Post your favorite quarantine campsite meal to Instagram with the hashtag #SmileysCookOff. Top two pictures with the most likes by morning of April 12 wins outdoor cooking gear!  On Wednesday join us live on facebook to learn how to bake a Kentucky derby Pie.

Any Scouts who want a blue card after completing a merit badge at home should email the completed certificate to support@samoset.org and request a blue card.  The support team will then mail out the completed blue card. When your Cub Scouts finish their 30-day challenge, don't forget to recognize them.  We have the patches at the right available through our Scout Shop (715-355-9680).

Scouting for Food

Scouting for Food must go on!

This service project is too important to cancel!  We need everyone to help spread the word in their communities since we will not be placing bags door to door.  This campaign will take place from April 15 - April 30, 2020.

We are asking every unit to help raise funds.  100% of the money your unit raises will be directed to food banks in your neighborhood.  Here are 5 steps you can take to ensure your unit is successful with Scouting for Food this year.

  1. Share the online giving options with all of the families in your unit www.samoset.org/SFF  or TEXT “give food” to 844-615-4269
  2. Share the Samoset Council Scouting for Food Facebook event https://www.facebook.com/events/884919011936132/
  3. Ask all of the families in your unit to consider a donation.
  4. Ask your families to share online giving options within their social media network.  Use the images in the toolkit.
  5. Print the SFF Flyer and share at your local grocery stores bulletin boards to engage the community (make sure this is only done within Wisconsin’s “safe-at-home” mandate)

Thank you so much for thinking of those in your community who need help now more than ever.  You will make the difference!

Training

This is a great time to update your Scouting training records.  We encourage Den Leaders, Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, and all other leaders to go online and complete training for their position.

Unfortunately the following spring training courses have been cancelled.  Most courses will be rescheduled for the fall.

  • BALOO Cub Scout Training (April 18)
  • Outdoor Ethics Courses (April 18)
  • Den Chief Training (May 2)
  • Wilderness First Aid (May 2)
  • Introduction to outdoor Leader Skills (May 15)

Camp Scholarships

The Tesomas Alumni Camping Trust has been established to assist any Scout or leader with financial need to experience outdoor adventure, including summer camp, winter camp, or high adventure. Request must be made using the campership application for each person by May 1.  Please note this deadline has been extended from what is listed on the form.

Flyer Design Contest

We are hosting a Scouts, BSA flyer design contest.  We are challenging Scouts to design a flyer to attract new youth to join.  The flyer must fit on a letter size paper (8.5 x 11) and have two inches of blank space at the bottom. If we use any part of your design in our flyers this fall you will receive a $20 gift card to the fast food restaurant of your choice. This is the perfect creative activity to do while staying at home. The deadline for submission is April 30, 2020. Please email your design or any questions to Amanda.Flannery@samoset.org.
