Spring Camporee 2020

Although units have cancelled campouts and weekend activities, that doesn’t mean Scouting has to stop. All families should participate in our spring camporee program by creating a campsite in your backyard.

  • Camp in your backyard. Set up your tent and sleep over night.
  • As a family, prepare one meal outdoors.
  • Demonstrate a Scout skill you recently learned or use your Scout book to learn a new one (map and compass, pitching a tent, basic first aid, knot tying)
  • Take a hike around your yard.
  • Make a camp gadget (Tri-pod, table, flag pole)
  • Submit photos of your camporee to smiley@samoset.org.

To count for camping nights and rank advancement, unit approval is required. Troops and packs should coordinate a date to allow for video chats during your event.

May Roundtable

A virtual roundtable for all Scouting leaders will be held on May 7 at 7:00 PM.  This month will feature presentations for our fall membership campaign.  Scouting is a valuable program for every family.  Learn how to help others join.

2020-2021 Resource Guide

Providing a year-round quality Scouting program is the key to unit success.  Samoset wants to make sure you have the tools and resource to make this happen.  The 2020-2021 resource guide is now available.  We encourage each unit to spend time this summer planning activities for the next Scouting year and building an active outdoor program.

Camping Update

Camp staff, volunteers, and council leadership continues preparations to conduct camp programs in a variety of ways this summer.  We are monitoring the latest information and guidance from national, state, and local officials.   At this point we are hopeful that summer camp will be possible in some format.  We know it will look different then past years.  Our top priority guiding our decisions is the health and safety of our campers, staff, and community. Thanks for your patience.  We hope to release more information in early May.

Below are what we know right now.

  • Additional cleaning and sanitation will be required at camp this summer.  We are taking the appropriate steps now to make sure we are prepared to meet these requirements.  Bathrooms, showers, and common areas will be cleaned multiple times a day.
  • Final payments will be due two weeks before your scheduled session of camp.
  • If your session of camp is cancelled full refunds will be given and the unit space deposit will be moved to 2021.
  • The National Council is actively reviewing and discussing annual health and medical record policies. We are all aware that many people are not able to get their annual physicals for summer camp and will be past the 12-month window by the time camp will start. Once we hear guidance, we will let you know.

If your unit is looking at moving later in the summer or cancelling, please email us (camp@samoset.org) so we can make necessary changes.

Custom Tshirt Orders

Pre-order for everyone to wear at camp. The order deadline has been extended to May 15. Imagine your entire unit wearing a camp shirt; what better way to show your camp spirit!  If your week of camp is cancelled and your unit does not attend camp, we will not order or charge you for your shirts and your unit is not out any money for placing your order.
