Hello unit leaders,

As of 01/01/2022, the National BSA's Scoutnet website, used by local Councils to input membership data and process Eagle paperwork, followed USE Dan Schmit's lead and retired. This retirement of Scoutnet has been anticipated for many years, however, due to the backlog of issues stemming from the Internet Recharter process, the replacement system for Scoutnet has yet to be officially launched.

What does this mean for your Unit?

For individual units, there will be very little impact to your function. Since this change was anticipated, Samoset Council has proactively created a structure to ensure our membership data input will not be disrupted. However, if individual member data needs to be updated (email addresses, mailing addresses, etc.) this information will not be able to be updated until the new system is in place.

What does this mean for your Scouts?

The biggest delay from this change will be related to Eagle paperwork. Eagle paperwork can still be turned in to the Council office, but there is no way currently to verify the applications with the National office, which is the beginning of the review process. Unfortunately, this means that these applications will be on hold until the new system is released. If a Scout submitted their Eagle paperwork prior to the Christmas holidays, then their application should already be verified, and their application has been sent to the individual coordinating their Eagle Board of Review. However, they will not be able to receive their certificate until the new system launches.

If you have any questions relating to specific Eagle applications, please reach out to abigal.glaum@samoset.org or kristin.woller@samoset.org. For general questions, as always, please call our main office at 715-355-1450.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
