SUMMER HOURS


Effective July 3 the Scout Office and Shop will have new hours of operation.  Watch for information this fall regarding our school-year hours which will begin the week of September 4.


Council offices open for walk-in service and support Monday-Thursday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM; Friday 8:30 AM – 12 PM

Scout shop is open Monday – Thursday, 9 AM – 5 PM; Friday 9:00 AM – 12 PM

  

PROGRAM KICKOFFS


Help us kickoff the next Scouting year this August.  It is imperative at least one person from every Pack and Troop joins us, but all are welcome. We will be providing valuable information about the upcoming Scouting year.  In addition, we will be handing out recruitment and popcorn materials.


     Stevens Point:  August 15, 6pm, St Paul’s United Methodist Church

     Marshfield:  August 17, 6pm, location TBD

     WI Rapids:  August 17, 6pm, First English Lutheran Church

     Wausau:  August 17, 6pm, Wausau Homes Scout Center

     Tomahawk:  August 17, 6pm, Packaging Corporation of America Training Facility

DISTRICT NAMES ANNOUNCED


During the past month and a half, two email surveys were conducted with each registered volunteer and family in our Samoset programs to name our five Scout districts.  Here are the results:

     Ahdawagam – Most of Wood County and the northern part of Adams County (100 series Scout units)
     Mushkodany – Portage County including Mosinee (200 Series Scout units)
     Northwoods – Langlade, Taylor, Lincoln, Vilas, and Oneida Counties (500 & 600 series Scout units)
     Ojibwa – Marshfield, Stratford, Abbotsford and communities in western Marathon County (300 series Scout units)
     Rib Mountain – Greater Wausau Area (400 series Scout units)

NATIONAL FEE INCREASE


Beginning August 1, 2023, all new youth and adult members will have a 12-month membership cycle. The BSA will cease prorating fees. Both youth and adults will pay the full annual membership fee and will renew their membership on the anniversary date of joining Scouting.

Its popcorn time!  This important fundraiser helps both Samoset Council and our Scouting units (Packs, Troops, Crews). Staff and volunteers are busy preparing materials so you and your unit can be successful.  Please note the important dates below.  Units will be able to signup for the sale on the Pecatonica website soon. 


Kickoff Events:

  • August 15 – Popcorn & Program Kickoff for Mushkodany District beginning at 6 PM.

  • August 17 – Popcorn & Program Kickoff for Rib Mountain, Ojibwa, Northwoods, and Ahdawagam Districts beginning at 6 PM.

Show & Sell Opportunities:  Two opportunities to order product.

  • August 2:  Orders due for pickup August 18. Distribution locations will be determined (and communicated) based on orders submitted. 

  • August 23:  Orders due for pickup September 15 & 16.  Distribution locations will be determined (and communicated) based on orders submitted.

Take Order Details:

  • September 23 – Popcorn Take Order Begins

  • October 22 – Popcorn Sale Ends

  • October 26 – Popcorn Orders & Prize Orders Due

  • November 11 & 12 - Take Order Delivery Pickup 

  • December 4 - Unit Popcorn Checks Cashed

Learn About Our 2023 Products

Beginning September 1 the current "72-hour" rule will be eliminated. 

  • All adults staying overnight in connection with a Scouting activity must be currently registered in an adult fee required position as listed or as an adult program participant. (limited exception for Cub Scout overnight programs)

  • All 18+ adults attending a Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scout or Exploring OVERNIGHT event/activity must be currently registered. 18+ adults attending a Cub Scout OVERNIGHT event/activity who are not the parent or legal guardian of a Scout in attendance must be registered in an adult fee required position.

The details for this policy change can be found HERE. Although early adoption of this new policy is recommended for all Scout units. It does not go into effect until September 1, 2023. The changes do not impact 2023 Akela’s World summer camp.
