Flambeau Canoe Base

Nestled deep in the Northwood's of Wisconsin, just a few miles west of Phillips, Wisconsin, is the Samoset Council’s, 150 acre Flambeau Canoe Base. Located on the south fork of the Flambeau River, this facility has miles of biking and hiking trails, with over 20 individual patrol camp sites, plus several troop camp sites, two modern outdoor latrines, a covered shelter, and campfire area.

For spring through fall use, there are 6 canoes on a trailer with helmets, paddles, and personal floatation devices for rent. Units can put in and take out wherever they want. Your use is not restricted to the south fork of this river only.

During the spring through fall, this is an excellent place for Packs, Troops and Venture Crews to use their mountain bikes, as they venture through miles of open trials, in the north woods pineries, traveling on through hardwood stands, around marshlands, ponds, observing Eagles, White Tail deer, hawks, porcupine, otter, coyote’s, song birds and ground critters. Return to your primitive camp site and continue your outdoor camping experience, expanding your fire building skills and outdoor cooking skills.

During the winter, this is one of the best places to use your winter camping skills, and teach those who are not as experience as you. This is a wonderful place to bring your troop for a winter campout, building shelters, snow trenches, lean-tos, reflector cooking, Dutch-oven cooking, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, hiking and use those survival skills you taught the boys all summer long.

This is also a great place to bring your Cub Scout Pack or Den for a day in the woods, whether it is a spring, summer, or fall event, or even a fun day in the snow in our own winter wonderland. Your activities are only limited to the limits of your imagination.
