Meet Ethan!

When boys open their new Cub Scout handbooks on June 1, they will be greeted by “Ethan,” their guide to adventure in the new Cub Scout program.  Ethan will appear in each book, and he will always be one year older and one rank ahead of the boys.  Ethan will be there to provide encouragement, helpful tips, funny stories, and mistakes he’s made (and learned from) along the way.  Boys in the Tiger, Wolf, and Bear den will be able to anticipate the exciting adventures awaiting them in their next year of Cub Scouts, and boys working towards their Webelos and Arrow of Light ranks will catch glimpses of the fun awaiting them as they transition to Boy Scouts.

Den Leader Guides - Everything You Need, All In One Book
New den leader guides have been developed for each of the program levels: one each for Tiger, Wolf, and Bear, and a combined guide for Webelos and Arrow of Light.  Den leaders can look forward to a comprehensive resource that will provide everything needed to run their den, all in one place.  For example, if an adventure requires boys to perform a skit during a campfire, there will be multiple skit scripts included in the meeting plan – no need to search for ideas in other books!
Each adventure has a detailed but easy-to-follow plan that includes:
  • Rationale – the purpose of the adventure and how it fits into the Cub Scout program
  • Takeaways – what Cub Scouts will gain from completing the adventure
  • Rank requirements – what Cub Scouts need to complete in order to earn the adventure
  • Notes to Den Leaders – hints for planning and leading the meeting
  • Preparation and materials – complete list of materials needed to implement the meeting
  • Den meeting plans – complete, step-by-step den meeting guidelines.
  • Do-at-home reminders – printable reminders to help parents and boys complete requirements at home

Other Resources
Plans for 2015-2017 Pack meetings are now available online at www.scouting.org.  In addition to the den leader guides, the Cub Scout Leader Handbook has been updated to reflect the changes to the program.  The Cub Scout Leader How to Book will remain available without significant changes.

New Program Workshops: Your Ticket to Adventure!
To ensure everyone is ready to make the transition to the new program on June 1, workshops will be held throughout the council in May.  The meetings will outline the coming changes, how to prepare, and provide the new den leader guides FREE to all den leaders in attendance!  In order to get your free book, you must RSVP online by April 29.

Leaders attending a workshop can also pre-order new leader guides, handbooks for boys, neckerchiefs, and neckerchief slides online and receive them at the meeting.
