Fall Popcorn Sale
Rocket Into Scouting - Fuel Your Adventure

The 2022 Popcorn Sale is almost here! This year’s theme is: “Rocket into Scouting – Fuel your Adventure” through popcorn. The Samoset Council is excited to provide a great fundraiser for all units (Packs, Troops, Crews) to raise the needed funds to support their adventures throughout the year. Units can earn anywhere from 32 percent to 36 percent commission on what they sell. Plus, we have exciting prizes for those participating in the prize program.

In addition, selling popcorn provides Scouts with great skills in the way of salesmanship, networking, business, personal management, community involvement and family participation. These skills lead to a sense of strong self-worth, leadership, and a basic understanding of how money works.

Units have the opportunity to participate in “Show & Sell” as well as the “Door-to-Door -Take Order” sale. The advantage of Show & Sell is:

  • You have the product up front and can sell outside storefronts, public gatherings, or door to door!

  • You do not have to go back to deliver the product as the sale & delivery is done in one transaction!

  • You get increased commissions!

  • You can keep whatever you do not sell for the take order popcorn sale!

Our Fall Membership Campaign Starts Now!
Join Night is September 22

As we approach our Fall 2022 Membership Campaign, it is critical that all Unit Leaders are familiar with the latest information regarding registration of new youth as well as new adult members. There is a ton of great information available online both at Samoset.org and Scouting.org under the “resources” tab.

Information About Online Registration for Councils and Unit Leaders

The Boy Scouts of America offers on online application process for youth and adults that can be completed from start to finish without a single piece of paper changing hands. This allows prospective members and leaders to register and pay in a way that’s convenient for them, and it creates a more efficient and user-friendly registration experience for units, districts, and councils.

All Units are highly encouraged to visit the two resources below for invaluable information and to find answers to many common questions. The Recruitment Resources link also lists additional recruiting incentives for both current and new Scouts as well as information on the recruiting "toolkit."

Quick Recruiting Tip
How to Update Your BeAScout.org Pin

Updating your BeAScout.org “pin” is simple, and it’s a good way to make sure your information is current. Displaying last year’s Cubmaster or meeting time doesn’t exactly impress new families interested in joining.

We call it a “pin” because when families search BeAScout.org and ask to find Scout units within a certain number of miles around their address, the answers are listed next to a map with what looks like pins marking the location of each unit

Fun Read
Where is Smiley the Rock Now?

When Samoset Council Outreach Specialist Mary Boyd hid a rock with Smiley the tent painted on it at Bay Lakes Council's Gardner Dam Adventure Base, she wasn’t sure how long it would take to be found.
The answer? Four months.
“Smiley was found! I was so excited!” Mary said.
That rock was rehidden at Gardner Dam Adventure Base and has yet to be found again.

Mary decided to paint and hide another rock, but this time at Samoset Council’s Camp Tesomas during period 2.  Whoever found the rock would win a 12-pack of Mountain Dew for the Friday night camp song. It didn’t take long before an out-of-council Scout from the Potawatomi Council spotted the rock.

The Scout was all smiles when Troop 9118 presented the gift of Mountain Dew to him.

Mary is hoping both rocks will continue to travel from Council to Council.

A Scout from Troop 95 with the Potawatomi Council poses with a Smiley the Tent rock. He found the rock at Camp Tesomas and also won a 12-pack of Mountain Dew!

It's more than a destination - It’s the adventure of a lifetime!

What’s a Jamboree? It’s not camp. National Jamboree is 360-degrees of fun, friends and fellowship with hands-on adventure that takes you places you never thought you’d go and challenge you to try things you never thought you could.
It’s the beginning of your own heroes’ journey that will challenge you to go farther than you ever thought possible. You’ll reach deeper and lift yourself higher to become the best version of yourself.

Samoset Council is accepting youth registrations and adult leader applications.
General Jamboree information can be found by clicking here. To register click here, or to contact a Council representative please email Kristin Woller – kristin.woller@samoset.org

The one-time registration fee of $25 will also remain unchanged. The cost for Scout Life magazine will increase to $15 annually (this is the first increase since 2005).
